The day after Tim and I took our mountain bike ride, the very same hills caught on fire. Here are some pictures taken on a hike we took with the kids several weeks later. Somehow no houses were damaged in this fire (although fences, shrubs, and trees were), and I think that was because the wind was in their favor that day, and the fire started when most people were around to help firefighters with lawn hoses and shovels.
Sadly, another fire hit the other side of our town later in June, and many homes were burned. Only two families we know lost their homes. Various friends of ours had houses that were surrounded by fire (like their siding was melted and decks blackened), but their houses were saved. Amazing.
