A Night Away: Our Date Night (and Day)

Waterfalls, a "vintage" hotel, hilarious local theater, Sister Hazel, and old guys talking smack over Wii bowling. That's how I'll introduce our Date Night away from the kids last weekend.

We found out about a deal that a nearby inn and theater were having: dinner, theater tickets, and lodging for two all for $100. Gabe and Karen were willing to watch the kids, so we headed on our way.

You may remember the funnel clouds I posted earlier this week. Those were taken on the 2+ hour drive up to our destination. We have had only two days without rain in the past 20 days. We did find a break in the clouds to stop at two lovely waterfalls, Upper and Lower Mesa Falls. We found a beautiful campground that we want to visit again, and we witnessed a couple getting engaged while overlooking the upper falls.

You might have to ignore my homely appearance. The night before we left, Kate was up for several hours with the flu, and when I woke up, Tim had me take her to the doctor to make sure she would be okay to stay with Grandma and Grandpa that night. There was no time for a shower before we left, and I was functioning on limited sleep. But thankfully Kate was on the mend and did just fine without us. :)

When we arrived at the hotel, my first question upon check-in was if they have a hot tub. The lady looked at me and explained that this is a "vintage" inn, so there was no such thing.

In fact, our room did not have a tv, dead bolt, or chain lock, but did have primitive heat that automatically turned off every two hours. Tim and I did not mind, however, because we were there on our own and were just enjoying each other's company.

After we cleaned up, we picked up a snack and drinks to enjoy in the park before we headed to the dinner theater.

The dinner theater is newly opened. The food was great and the play was a blast. You could tell the actors were having fun, and they often had to hide their own laughter. They involved audience members by sitting on their lap or pointing at them and asking questions. It was fun. The play was Les Miserables: A Whole Lot Less Miserable, upon arrangement with the Desert Star Theater in SLC, and the actors and actresses were all from the area, and were extremely talented.

It was still light when we got out of the play, so we went for a drive and listened to Sister Hazel.

Then we went for drinks at the local lounge, and had a ball talking with the locals and watching four grown (old?) men talk smack to each other while they bet drinks on who would win Wii bowling. I think they enjoyed entertaining us. It was quite an experience, hence the look in my eyes in this pic:

The next morning, Tim slept in and I began my book club selection for July, "My Sister's Keeper." We had breakfast on the way home, and marveled at how easy and quiet it is to eat out without the kids around. Then we returned home and had a blast with the kids for the rest of the weekend.
