Our Yearly Fall Trip

Each fall I take Tim on an overnight trip to a local resort town for his birthday (partly because we need a getaway, partly because he is hard to shop for--ha ha)

After our delicious dinner at our favorite restaurant, and a good night's sleep and fabulous breakfast and conversation at a bed n breakfast that we last stayed at right before Kate was born, we headed home. We decided to be adventurous and take the backroads home.
Here we are, enjoying the turning leaves and the dusting of snow from several days earlier. .. . .

And here we are sliding down the mountain in the mud. It was scary at times, and I even got out to walk every now and then just so my heart could calm down. Some nice hunters gave us some advice (they showed up just when we were really getting scared). Life lesson. . . sometimes life would be much easier if we just knew what was ahead. . . . our trepidation in pressing forward was that we didn't know if the roads were going to get worse and worse, or if we had already passed the most difficult part.

Finally (several hours beyond what it would have taken us to return to town the fast way), we made it to a safe road with beautiful leaves. It took our hearts all day to fully calm down. Tim did great. He's a good driver.
